I am from Columbia, SC and I’ve lived in SC my whole life. I’m married to a wonderful man who is an artist and photographer. We also have a joint business, jellykoe, where we travel to craft shows around the country. I’ve been sewing for years, and I love it! I’m currently not working a steady job, so I have a lot of time to just create. That’s why I decided to open my own shop.
What items do you carry in your shop?How did you decide on your shop name?
It took a week of agonizing over the name to finally settle on YesterEra. I wanted something that would evoke the vintage atmosphere without being cheesy or too hard to remember. YesterEra was the last name my husband and I came up with, and we both agreed it suited the shop the best.
Do you have anything new you plan on adding to your store?YES! I have a ton of clothing designs in the works, I just need to sit down and make them! Right now, a lot of my things are 50s style. Look for more 20s, 30s, and 40s styles coming up.
Do you have a blog, twitter, or facebook page?I keep a collection of pictures of past fashions, and from there get inspired to make changes. I always think “would a woman today wear this?” and how I can make it accessible. I also have friends who are models, pin ups, burlesque dancers, and costumers, and a lot of times one of them will inspire me to make something.
What items in your shop do you most enjoy making and why?I started out making costumes, which is how I got into historical fashions. Making costumes and everyday wear is different, and sometimes I have to redirect myself from thinking of an outfit as a costume. I still enjoy costuming to be able to make more elaborate things, but I am very happy to be launching a line of clothing into the everyday fashion world.
